Front End Vibe

I have an annoying vibe in the front end of my 87 1/2 ton 4wd. The balljoints and wheel bearings are tight, same with the tie rod ends. Basically, anywhere around 65, the truck starts to vibe slightly, sometimes worse then others. Not too bad but enough.

I had a worse situation and swapped rims/tires. Got alot better but I still have a slight vibe. What else in the front end could cause it? Can old leaf spring/sway bar bushings cause the vibe? My steering stabilizer is shot but I don't see that causing this.

Any ideas? It may be the tires but I'm trying to eliminate other things first.

Re: Front End Vibe

Driveshaft is actually out of the truck right now as I need to have it rebuilt.

I wish I had another set of tires to try but I got nothin.

Re: Front End Vibe

Front end vibrations/wobbles are usually tire or wheel related. As in, they are the source, but other worn parts "allow" the vibration/wobble to happen. Replacing the "shot" stabilizer could very well cover-up this problem.
Any of the mounting area bushings could contribute to this. Loose sway-bar bushings generally only make clunky noises, but that wouldn't have anything to do with the vibration.
Look for a bad tire or a bent wheel. One often over-looked issue with tires is "roundness". A tire that is not round may still be able to be balanced, but it will not "roll" true.

Re: Front End Vibe

Back to this fun stuff. Found out my rear driveshaft was bent. Had a new one made. That took care of about 75% of my vibes. Right around 62-68 I still get an intermediate vibe. To me, I feel it in the wheel and under my feet near the pedals...so I think its in the front end.

Swapped another set ofwheels/tires and no change. The front has new shocks and steering stabilizer. All the balljoints, wheel bearings, and tie rod ends are tight. I do not have a front driveshaft in it plus I have manual locking hubs so I know its not the front axle. The last pieces I havent touched are the leaf springs/bushings. I'm positive they are original. They are dry rotted, cracked, and at least one of the front leaf spring bushings is split. I'm thinking that worn bushings could be causing the rest. Could this be the problem??
