rear leaf springs
This is on a 65, but the 67-72's have the same rear coils.
Has anyone ever coverted a coil rear truck to leafs? I have a '65 C10 and a parts '73 C20. I want to rob the front discs and rear axle from the '73 to put under the '65. I'm building the '65 to pull my car trailer and want to get away from the coils, that's also why I got a 3/4 ton parts truck. What do you fella's think? Thanks, Keith

I think you will find a minor difference in frame rail width where the spring perches go(about 1/4"). My longhorn, is a little different than the other leaf equipped trucks(straight rails). I measure right at 34" outside to outside on the rails. My 78 20 series is more like 34 1/4".......a 1/8" plate tween the frame & perches on ea side? You would have to drill all the holes, as the lenghts on the springs are different than the 2wd leafs from 67-72(your 65 frame is a "close Mohican"). If you like fab work, I think it could be done! On the front, you might just bolt the complete crossmember under the 65 from the later truck. Good luck.....crazy AL

Yea, I need to measure the frame first thing. If it's just a 1/4 inch difference then I will be ok. The front change over will be a bolt in deal, no prob there. I just wanted to hear from anyone that had done this before in case I had over looked anything.

There are two different setups. The 4x4 and Longhorns have the 40" spring centers while the 2x4 have 42.5 spring centers. 4x4 and Longhorns have 2 1/2" wide springs and 2x4 have 2 1/4" wide springs.
