Quality of repop vent windows?
Hi:
I have a 1972 GMC, looking at cleaning up the weatherstripping, as the rainy season comes to TX. My vent windows are stock/original, and the chrome is pitted and the seals are all hard as a rock. Are the reproduced/aftermarket vent windows any good or should I try to rebuild what I have? Not interested in 1 piece conversions, I like the look of the vent windows on the old truck. |

Re: Quality of repop vent windows?
Hi ,
I purchased some repops and I have yet to install them but I did a test fit and they seemed perfect. They look good and very close to original, a little tinnier perhaps and the track fuzz seems a it may not last 40 years. I'm quite picky and I'm happy with them. I like the vent window look as well.

Re: Quality of repop vent windows?
I've looked into the repops and as I recall they were pretty spendy. You might try to rebuild a decent pair. I did it and, although it was a a bit of a task. once I did one, I was quite pleased with the results. I even built a few tools to aid in the task. Just a thought

Re: Quality of repop vent windows?
I bought a set of aftermarket vents and ended up sending them back. They didn't seal tight.I ended up buying the nicest set of originals I've seen so far. They cost me about $225 off E-bay.Good luck

Re: Quality of repop vent windows?
I put a set in my old 68 in 2004. The man wanted all chrome around windows after he bought my truck. We put some after market vents in it. They are siliconed shut on a 25000.00 truck. First and last pair i ever bought. They might be better by now.

I sent re-pop vents back, they were a terrible fit!

Re: Quality of repop vent windows?
We found that 1 or 2 out of 10 will fit good so we do not carry them due to poor quality.

Re: Quality of repop vent windows?
Thanks for all the comments guys. I'll stay away from the replica ones for sure. Looks like I'm on the hunt for either rebuild kits for what I have or some take outs in great shape.
