Re: HO72 in Texas 4.88 Gears

If you can confirm it has 4.88's I'd be interested. Never seen a 4.88. 4.10,4.56 and 5.14's are the norm.

Using a Digital Tach to verify Engine RPM and a GPS my speed, with a 235/85R16 tire, running at 65 MPH with the 4.88 rear, .73 over drive on the NV4500, the truck turns about 2445 RPM, By the numbers a 235/85R16 is 31.73" tall, and will turn over 635.6165896 revolutions per mile, to travel at 65 mph this will require that the tire make 41315.07832 revolutions per hour. Divided by 60 minutes this is 688.5846387 rpm. Take that x. 4.88 x.73 and you get 2453 RPM at the engine. So I am fairly certian that it is a 4.88

Is it pulled yet? If so there are numbers on the side of the ring gear.

Re: HO72 in Texas 4.88 Gears

I think,,,,maybe the clutch has a little bit of slip, or the tires. I have seen a lot of eatons, and never seen 4.88's. I would bet they are 4.56, which seems to be the most common gears available in the eatons.

The Clutch is a brand new Center force Dual Friction. Less than 5000 miles on it. I am absolutely sure it is a 4.88

Re: HO72 in Texas 4.88 Gears

I too have been through a ton of Eatons and never seen 4.88's but I have heard about 4.88's. I always wanted one and that is why my hopes are up
H110's had 4.88's though.
This Eaton does have the removable rear cover right?

It is a HO72 with out a doubt, removable cover, drop out center section, OE for a 72 1 ton dually C/30, I have had 5 of these axles, I know good and well what they are. If I could find a set of 4.56'es or 4.11's for it id keep it.

I just spent a whole bunch of money buying a dana 60, a 14 bolt and a seat for my truck, I wouldnt be able to pick it up for a month or so. If you still have it then, and I havent sold the axle I will take it off your hands.
