Spare tire position
wHEN i first got my 84 from my dad who passed away , one of the first things I DID WAS remove the spare tire carrier & bolted in the bed next to the cab with a vinyl spare tire cover on it .
What do the rest of yall do with yours. I once considreed getting a donut & mounting it basically where the original was , but not seen . The original just hung down to much to suit me. I just bolted the tire to the bed (not the whole carrier)  Ok I KNOW THIS IS A WEIRD POST , but I am curious what have yall done with yours . |

Mine had a bracket and stodd up in the front left corner of the bed. My truck has a big ol welded on receiver and there's nowhere underneath the truck to put the tire anymore. I took the bracket out so i could hang my toolbox in so now the tire just stays under the toolbox, most of the time.

mine used to slide around the bed. Then i did a few burn outs with it... it still sits in the bed but goes flat.

Mine's in the bed too. It doesn't slide around to bad, but as soon as I can scrounge together all the missing pieces of my carrier she's going under.

mine is in the bed also hated how much tire showed when in the carrier. it don't slide around much at all, all three of my trucks are like that.

Mine is in the bed but will be replaced by a donut spare (under the truck)when I find one with the correct bolt pattern.

You could find a 15x6.5 van rally rim, then buy a skinny tire to put on it. It would be an improvement over the full size spare.
You could also buy a 15x5 "front runner" racing rim meant for trucks, but it's going to be costly because the rim alone is $200. Personally, I would go with the van rally rim since it could be picked up very cheap or even free.

When I dropped an aftermarket gas tank in place of the spare, I had a local shop weld up a "Continental Kit" for my truck that mounted on the trailer hitch.
