Let's talk top of dash color!

My blazer is medium olive green, #504 and I am curious to know what you all did when you repainted. What color did you paint the top of the dash? When the blazer was yellow, it was painted a dull brown color about the same as the dash pad. It is now green, same as the truck body and I am wondering if I should just leave it like that...I included pics of the dash but not the top but you get the idea.

Re: Let's talk top of dash color!

I would think that body color would look best. Mine is currently painted flat black but when I have the truck repainted I plan on going with the same color as the rest of the truck.

Re: Let's talk top of dash color!

I did a Med Olive truck a few years ago. I painted the top of the dash the same color as the dark green defroster vents, which is the way they were originally. Personally, I don't like it when the dash is body color. It looks like a shortcut IMO.

Re: Let's talk top of dash color!

Painted mine flat black. I didn't want to be staring at the top of the dashboard when I was looking out the windshield. I suppose any color is OK, but I would make it flat.

Re: Let's talk top of dash color!

Thanks for bringing up this topic. I agree with comments above and think that the top dash should be a non gloss finish and a different color than the body. But I'm no expert just adding my opinion.

Picture time anyone?

Re: Let's talk top of dash color!

Didn't have any issue with mine being glossy...zero.
Never got any glare from it.

Painted it body color.

Mine is flat sandalwood - the truck is orange with the parchment/sandalwood interior.

Body color with a black dash pad...that looks best to me at least.

Re: Let's talk top of dash color!

My blazer is light yellow w/ black interior and the area between the pad and the windshield is flat black. I am changing the color to med blue and going back flat black for the dash.

bouncy, could you get me a pic of your dash with the sandlewood pad and the dash top? I had the tan or light saddle pad when it was yellow and I purchased the sandlewood pad from Brothers and it was a little lighter than I was led to believe. I may not use that one and get the light saddle but would like to see yours and try to get an idea what it will look like with my medium olive green. Thanks so much, bigdon

Re: Let's talk top of dash color!

Did the factory ever put a plastic type cover over the metal upper dash, 72levi's super cheyenne has one and it looks pretty sharp.

Re: Let's talk top of dash color!

If you`re going for "original" it would match the interior trim color (dash pad) unless it has tilt. Then it would be matte black, which would also match dash pad since the column, steering wheel, and dash pad would be black.
Some colors had a different dash pad/steering wheel color, like Parchment had Sandlewood. So,going by the dash pad is best for original.
