Re: guru's..name this part
This was GM's answer to broken motor mounts for the late 60's early 70's HIPO motors prior to safety mounts we have today. When a motor mount broke and it had the linkage type gas pedal the pedal would go to the floor as the motor torqued over. This was to keep the motor strapped down.
It really took the thrill out of driving a chevrolet. |

Re: guru's..name this part
It looks like a motor tie down. It arrests the amount the engine can "torque" to the right upon acceleration. My 67 Impala with 327 had them from the factory.

Re: guru's..name this part
I believe the technical name is, "Hold the engine down so it don't try to flop over & stick the throttle open bracket."

1965 Sting Ray -- 327/365hp -- no problem. Yes, the throttle will stick wide open.... makes for a real exciting 1 - 2 shift.

Re: guru's..name this part
so?
Doesn't make it factory. It was a RECALL... the DEALER installed it after it had been driven a while. |

Re: guru's..name this part
The design change on new cars and trucks after this recall was the interlocking mount or safety mount and the cable accelerator pedal.

Re: guru's..name this part
The 327 in my '62 is kind of "stock". It has a broken left motor mount as we speak. I have a chain holding down the left side of the engine.
