Finally got my truck now Let the fun begin
Went over to Tucson this weekend to pick up the truck. Got back Saturday night. Paid $1500 for it. It's not in too bad a shape. PO had parked it 2 years ago. Said it ran fine when he parked it.
He advertised it as having a 235, but i'm pretty sure it's a 230. Manual granny 4 speed on the floor. 1 BBL Rochester B carb.

Re: Finally got my truck now Let the fun begin
Spent all day Sunday trying to get it to run. Here's a breakdown of what I did.
Tried to start her up and after several attempts got it going for all of about 40 seconds before she died. Figured I had the timing off. Because as I was in the epic struggle to remove the oil filter, I had accidentally rotated it. So I started messing with the timing things to try and get it back to where it was. Finally the wife said enough.

Re: Finally got my truck now Let the fun begin
Monday spent messing with timing some more. Found a few burst fuel lines. After about the 3rd one I said screw it, and ran to the FLAPS to get replacement fuel lines for every fuel line I could see. After that messed with it some more but no luck.
Today, was at it again after work. While messing around with the carb to make sure it was working, I noticed the idle speed adjustment was way off. So I adjusted it some, gave it a try and it fired up. It wasn't the smoothest, but after a little more adjustment, and adjusting the mixture a bit to get a nice stable idle I figured it was set. I messed around with the distributor a bit more to get it a little more dialed in. Then I eased it out of the driveway and into the cul-de-sac so I could do some donuts with my son . As I went to park it back into the driveway it died on me again I tried some more adjustments but can't seem to get it started back up now. Although every once in a while if I stomp the gas or pull the choke out it'll start, but if the choke is out it revs way to high for idle, but if I push the choke back in it dies again. So for now I'm kinda clueless about what to do next. Any Ideas?

It's got some issues as you well know, but it looks like a good start. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Finally got my truck now Let the fun begin
Yup has issues. Rust isn't too bad, passenger cab corner, drivers side rocker, both front fenders have rot in the rear and DS fender at the front is a bit smooshed.
But a pretty good interior/cab. I'm gonna try and get some more detailed photos tomorrow. Hopefully, I'll be able to get her running again. Though the wife thinks I should take it into a shop. Would rather do the work myself, but sometimes I do know my limits.

Progress is gonna be kinda slow for a while. Just trying to get it to where I can drive it for now. Then it'll go into storage while I'm stationed in Germany for a couple of years. While I'm over there I'll be saving up and making plans so when I get back, I'll have a nice plan for doing a a Frame-Up custom restomod

God I hope not, at least not yet. Was thinking it might be the carburetor, but not sure.

Re: Finally got my truck now Let the fun begin
If it runs at high idle and only on choke.....it sounds like your low speed jet is clogged.
Rebuild the carb. Nice project!

Re: Finally got my truck now Let the fun begin
Thanks! Been in love with these trucks since my first one. Been regreting getting rid of it since the day I sold it. Been looking for one for a while now. Glad I found this one.
Plan to eventually upgrade the engine/transmission, but not sure yet what i'm gonna go for. I love the look/feel of a inline 6, so I'll probably upgrade to like a 292 with TBI, etc. and a 5 spd manual. Think it definatly needs a new rear end gear. Will also upgrade to disc brakes. I like the current stance, but think I might get some 1" drop coils to lower the front just a tad for a bit o' rake. Thinking for paint, either a dark green maybe with pearl, or a Really dark (think eggplant) purple.
