Looks pretty bad, but I am hardly one to pass judgment on what is toast and what can be repaired. After all I am in the process of parting a truck who's only real body flaw is rusty rockers, rear cab corners and the floor. But as my favorite Vulcan likes to say... "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one..."


I see you are in St. Helen's, my Dad's best friend grew up there and has a house up on the hill there. Is the St. Helen's Dinner still delicious? ( Lung Fung in Scapoose is really good too... their Lo Mein noodles are to die for.... )

IMO it depends on what your after in the long run. I have 2 different builds going on with totally different paths. One is a budjet build and one is a total frame off resto. Either way have a couple more

Looks like a good candidate for a shaved drip rail. You would need to cut most of that off anyway.

The drip rail weak spot on our trucks.

In the past, I have told anyone that has one of these old trucks to pay close attention to the drip rails for cracks and or rust problems in that area.

It happens when the seal and paint crack and moisture gets trapped under the sealant. It's an out of sight out of mind area and most people don't realize the creeping rust eating away at the roof.

Please, if you have one of these trucks and you haven't checked lately, look for any cracks and/or failure of the sealant. Once it cracks and fails there is moisture trapped under it already.

It's a shame, cause there aren't any patch panels that I'm aware of and the only recourse is to find another cab.

Well I had some free time last night and today so I thought I try to deal with some of the rust on the cab of my '67 GMC SWB. Yeah- that didn't work out so well. Fortunately, I haven't bought the patch panels yet- so I'm only out some time right now. This is how it all played out- enjoy!

First, I had a couple-few of these:


Then I picked up these sucka's and went to work:


After a couple hours- here's what's left!


Yeah, the "B-Pillar" behind the cab corner panel is shot, the floor is perforated clear up past the dimmer switch. The A-Pillar bottom is gone, the bottom 2" of the footwell area is rotted out....and it's the same, if not worse on the passenger side.
Needless to say, this combined with the previous discovery of rot in the roof/windshield frame has forced me to hunt down a new cab. I think it'll be awhile before I find a solid small window cab for a decent price ($$$ tight ya' know!). If anybody in the Pacific NW has a line on one- give me a holller, I will most definately be interested in it.

switch to Natural Light, and save money... then you can buy a new cab. Yours is toast and it will probably be easier/cheaper to replace than repair.
