1978 gmc steering box questons

my truck is making noise a stand still when you try to turn it. I just replaced the pump and its still doing it so the only other possibility is the steering box. These things are a little pricey new and im trying to sell the thing so im gonna go and find one at a junkyard, Does anyone know if one out of a 2wd truck will work on a 4wd? also what years interchange?

No, 4x4 steering boxes are different from 2 wheel drive trucks. I went through this on my 78 k-10 when I changed it out. If I recall, 73-76 are the same. They changed the size of the input shaft in for 77 & 78. 79 looks to be a one year only deal and 80-84 are the same.
