Exclamation Is there any reason why i cant weld this?

Im installing my front bags, and am getting ready to drill the holes for the upper control arm plate. Is there any reason why i cant weld that plate on??? It will take me 4 times as long drilling through this metal and bolting up the plate (which i think looks funky) then it would to just weld it in....

Im kinda workin on the truck right now as we speak, awaiting responses. ahaha

depends on if you're able to screw in the fitting on top of the bag.....on one set of upper bag mounts i have you ARE able to screw in the fitting and the other set you ARE NOT able to....so id think if you are able to it shouldn't be a problem..

You also need a bump stop and one of the outer bolt holes is ideal.

Re: Is there any reason why i cant weld this?

energy suspension and a couple other places make a urathane one that looks like a bee hive with a 3/8th stud that works pretty good in that spot.

of course I'm one of the wreckless crowd that doesn't run one because my frame will plant before the bumpstop!

it is absolutely a very bad idea to drive with your bags defalted. If your suspension bottoms out on the bag and your bags don't have an internal bumpstop ( some do, most don't) driving with them bottomed out drastically reduces the bags life. The cool thing with a lot of the synthetic bumpstops is they can be progressive to start soft and then get firmer as they compress providing a less jarring end of travel experience.

Re: Is there any reason why i cant weld this?

I agree with Lo on the bags. I had a leak in my front plumbing somewhere that lowered the front down and leaked out after sitting at night. I was in a hurry and drove it to work for like 2 days like that. I didn't really ever find the leak, so my bags deflated most every night for a good while. Needless to say...... H-pipe took a beating and my bags are wearing bad on me now (6 months later) I'll probably end up buying the air ride control arms and such, so I'm not too concerned, but learn from my mistakes!!! don't run your bags low!!

How are you in such a hurry that you can hit the switch or do you not have a compressor on your truck?

My bags have internal bumpstop... I dont plan on ever running em without air. I almost bought some bumpstops and realized these had internals. That works for me....

Re: Is there any reason why i cant weld this?

The guy I bought the truck from had the compressor but wanted it. So I let him keep it and he converted the lines to an air chuck ( which I suppose makes them air springs instead of air bags?) So no, at the time I didn't have a compressor. So my dumb @$$ decided that it was ok to drive like it was. He did a shady job on the bag setup so I changed it since. Still a dumb move on my part

Re: Is there any reason why i cant weld this?

Even if you bag has an internal, I'd still use an external as well. I'd rather wear out one that's bolted to the frame than the one inside the bag.
