should i????

I have a delema. After having the slug for over 13 years and having it so close to completion. the truck got ravaged by storm surge from hurricane ike. and as you know slugs don't like salt, or salt water for that matter. after thinking about it i decided to give the truck to my brother in law and nephew. now i have the opportunity to purchase a 80 model stepside with a inline 6 for around a grand. am i wrong in wanting a new truck to piddle with even though i have a ton of other work to do ( rebuilding my sisters and parents house that were hit by the same storm surge mentioned earlier)??? i was thinking about getting the 80 and letting it sit till i had time to do something with it. my whole family lost just about everything. am i being selfish by wanting to get another truck so soon??? my mom says i should get it, my dad on the other hand says no. and everyone else don't seem to mind. i know my two boys would love it. i have already decided what i would do if i got it, but i am feeling guilty about wanting this "new" truck. any advice on this perplexing predicament??

Re: should i????

I wouldn't think it as being too selfish for that cheap of a truck that you aren't going to touch for awhile, but if you are having those feeling, then maybe it would be best to wait.
I promise you there will be another deal next year, maybe a better deal. They made alot of these trucks-we aren't gonna run out of them anytime soon.

Re: should i????

I think if you can afford it and make it sit on the back burner kinda so it aint taking up all your time that you should go for it. Get everything else done that you need to and then tear into the new truck! Thats my vote.

Re: should i????

I'd do as these guys say. If you can afford it so it doesn't cause you any financial problems, by all means get it and put it back. It won't take forever to make the repairs from the hurricane damage and since you are like the rest of us here, you need to have a truck around to tinker with anyway! My vote is get it! I don't think that you are being selfish in any way. After all, you gave away your truck after owning it for so long. The title on mine isn't likely to change until after I'm stone cold dead! ...Joe

Re: should i????

what's the wife think? are you a praying man? ask the Lord...it wont replace the one you had forever so if that is your mindset, I say wait. If it's just a deal, whatever. I'll bet though when all this house stuff is done and you take a breath and relax, one will fall in your lap. There are tons of friends on this site that need an excuse to help someone else!

Re: should i????

I know my truck is a great stress reliever for me.. I just get out there and tinker with it and all my cares go away for a little while.. if you can afford it, go for it.

Re: should i????

i agree with the others, get the truck, put it aside until you get those who are a priority in your life taken care of, then go for it.

Re: should i????

I say wait until you have more cash in hand and buy something that needs less work or is finished. Your old truck was almost finished, so you owe it to yourself.
