Fuel inj. to carb swap

I recently took a swim with my 97 chevy. The motor is shot and I'm ready for a new one. I've decided that if I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna step it up a notch. I've always wanted this truck to have a carbureted motor (even though I loved the vortec 350). And I've heard that getting another fuel injected motor in there is tough because the computer won't sync up with it if it's a larger, more powerful motor. If anyone's swapped a fuel injected for a carbureted motor please let me know how much of a headache it is. Also, if anyone has installed a larger fuel injected motor, please let me know what the outcome of that was.
