T56 in a 67-72
Anyone done it? I found a T56 for $250 and I`m looking at a really clean 68 custom cab long bed with a 3spd and I`m thiking it would be a great swap. I want to keep the stock bench seat. Can anyone give any input or install tips or pics? i tried the search and either nobody posted about it or I didn`t enter the right words.

I know of a guy who was going to install one in a blazer bolted to an Atlas range box but changed his mind and went with an auto that has overdrive instead.
Great price for the T56 though, you should do it. |

Re: T56 in a 67-72
The key issue would be the 6th gear. Depending on tire diameter & rear-end ratio, it might be useless in a truck that's shaped like a barn door unless you're driving @ 80mph on the highway.
Is the intent that the 6th gear/OD will benefit mpg's? If so, it will only happen if the motor is built to sustain the torque peak in that range. For the price of that trans you found, it might be worth a shot ($250 is a screamin' deal if the trans is actually in decent shape). I know of an older project that got a 6.0 6spd swap that worked well. He did have to swap to buckets to clear the shifter. Aftermarket T-56's have shifter mounting options that make them more 'swap friendly' vs. an OEM production transmission. His set-up was also 4.10 gears w/a 28" tall rear tire & a 224/224 hyd roller cam w/EFI (6.0 truck intake/TB).
