NV4500 in Blazer
It would be nice to have a 5 speed in my 72 4x4 Blazer, does the NV4500 just bolt right in or are there any modifications that have to be made. The truck is in pretty original unmolested condition so I would like to keep it that way as much as possible.

Re: NV4500 in Blazer
It requires a different bell housing, and an adapter to tie the NV4500 to your NP205. The output shaft on the NV4500 is a 32 spline so you need to change the input shaft on the 205 or find a 205 that was attached to a TH400. If you change the input shaft on 205 it has a larger bearing, so the case also has to be bored.

Re: NV4500 in Blazer
It will bolt up to the motor, but that is about it. It is 4 inches longer than the SM465, so you will have to move the motor foward or tranny backwards, or both. Shifter is father aft on the NV4500, so moving it backwards is a little more difficult than moving fowards. Buy the Advanced Adapters parts to make the job easier, albiet alot more expensive. Not a cheap conversion considering cost of the NV4500 $1000-$1500, AA parts $1000, plus incidentals if you want hydraulic clutch, driveshaft mods, etc. Also labor if you will have to pay someone to do the work.
I am installing one right now in a 68 K20, so requirements are rather fresh in my mind.

Re: NV4500 in Blazer
Man, how nice would that be if they DID just bolt right in! If you are doing it for gas mileage, it isn't worth the money invested. If you are doing it just for the hell of it because you want to then by all means get after it. I think it is a really nice upgrade if you want to pay the money.
I have never done this swap but from reading about it, it seams easier to get an NV4500 with a transfer case (NP241 I guess?) already mounted and go from there. I believe it is cheaper than paying AA for the 205 kit. Just my $0.02

Re: NV4500 in Blazer
I thought about that but the front drive drops on the opposite side

Re: NV4500 in Blazer
When I did mine the transmission and transfer case tied together with the Advance Adapter plate, the only way to get the output shaft on the transmission and the input on the transfer case was to change the transfer case input to 32 spline female. My SM465 and 205 were both 12 spline and used a coupler
