replace or rebuild/repair brake master cylinder
First off, its the master cylinder, not booster. Sorry, i cant change the title
Im piecing together a 5lug power disc brake conversion kit for my 1963 2wd GMC but for right now im still running around in the truck with the stock drum brake system. Problem is, i have to pump the brakes several times before i even get any brake pedal feel. I know older manual systems you will have to pump the brake pedal a little, but this is very excessive. Im thinking that the diaphram is worn out. Also just thinking about rebuilding it instead of buying a new one from LMC since i just need a temperary fix What do you guys think it could be? -wes Last edited by jwcardy; 10-19-2008 at 06:50 PM. |

Re: replace or rebuild/repair brake booster
Have you tried bleeding the brakes? If the repair kit is cheap I would just do it for piece of mind. I know you say you are swapping it out soon anyways, but in the meantime if you are driving it I would error on the side of safety. For you and the others on the road. I have not tried, but I heard these are very simple to rebuild.

Re: replace or rebuild/repair brake booster
I would try bleeding and adjusting the brake shoes to be tighter. I had a 69 Chevelle that would do this and just needed to be adjusted once and awhile. You can generally adjust thru a slot in the backing plates.
