hey guys what is the best product to put between the stepside fenders and box. I have the box apart for paint and need to know what you guys have used and what works best. Thanks Rick

I used the vinyl/leather type webbing. Has a small round bead on one edge. You have to notch it to get it to fit properly and position it in place as you tighten the bolts. Not really that noticeable.

Your local body shop carries a GM seam sealer material that was used during assembly between the body panels. It is inexpensive and original.

I used the welting like Mudder used and also used a ureathane sealant for a leak proof joint.

I glued mine in place first.

Then bolted it to the truck.

I installed it to keep the paint from rubbing more than anything. I'm not to concerned with rust. I keep the truck clean and I coated the crap out of everything with eastwoods rust encapsulator. So far so good?

I like the idea of gluing the welting in place first, what kinda glue did you use ???

Ready to laugh?

It was a can of "elmers" all purpose glue. It comes in a spray can and it said it was good for wood, metal, plastic, etc... I taped off the fender sprayed it on (you can see the spray can in the pic). Sprayed it on the back side of the felt, let it get tacky, then stuck it on. I did about 1' sections at a time. To get a good fit, I also cut triangle sections out of the welting to go around the curves better.

i don't mean to jack but...what if you don't use the felt/welting? I put mine on what was supposed to be temporarily without the felt/welt but half way through I found it such a pain in the hinney that I went ahead and tightened everything down. whats gonna happen?
