heater wheel question
I have a stupid question for you guys.
Is the heater fan supposed to spin independently from the shaft? I can hold the shaft and spin the wheel, although it doesn't spin well. I bought a new blower motor since mine was bad and used the old wheel, but the wheel seems to have a lot of movement even though the nut is tightened all the way. Did I forget something like an alignment bushing or something? Or is my old wheel bad? It seems to be blowing air,but it makes a loud racket that increases with speed... the noise is exactly what you would expect from this problem... just the intermittent noise of the wheel catching the shaft. thanks |

Re: heater wheel question
I bought a replacement blower motor for a '76 that I used to own and the shaft on the new motor was slightly different. Just different enough that the squirrel cage would not tighten up properly. All I could blame it on was the Chinese!! I don't know if this could be what your problem is or not. Compare the new and old and see if there may be a slight difference that you haven't noticed. Good luck.

Re: heater wheel question
In one of the threads about this, they mention the retaining washer under the fan to keep it aligned right. Did you re-install that washer? Sounds like that might be the problem.

Been researching it myself. Just read that yesterday so it kind of stuck in my head.
