engine shakes

I need some help. I've got a 72 with a 454 with a Edelbrock intake and carb. I had a lot of debris in my fuel filter so I thought I get the one in the carb too. I figured if I was there, I would go through it. So I change the filters and rebuild the carb. Put everything back together and get it running great. Probably running the best since I first got it. Anyways, that was 2 weeks ago. Well I have a small exhaust leak that I wasn't to sure if it was the headers or collectors. I get both gaskets and replace them. Here is where things get odd. After I changed the gaskets I drove it and everything was good. Two days ago I get in to go for a spin and it starts rough and dies. Try it again and it fires up and idles fine. Put the truck in gear and go to take off. The truck is jerky and I can feel the engine shaking when I give it some. Lift the hood and can see the engine shaking/stuttering. My first thought was a vac leak. So I check around the carb and all the lines, still not good. Check all the plug and wires and they are good. Then I started thinking tranny or TC. But now the engine barely stays running when it does. And when it does, it does the shake/stutter thing even without the car in gear. Sorry it's kinda long. I just wanted to get all the info out there. Right now I'm kinda lost as to where to start. Thanks for any help you all can provide.

Re: engine shakes

Do you have HEI? If you do, Check the power wire going to it for a loose or faulty connection.
