front sheetmetal interchangeability
I just sold my 63 fleetside shortbed and I'm currently shopping for a three-door burb or panel truck.... preferably a 67 or 68.
What I'd like to know is this: If I become the proud new owner of a 69-72 model, Can the front clip of a 67-68 be installed? What mods are necessary? Thanks! |

Re: front sheetmetal interchangeability
here is my 72 burb;
As you can see, it has a 68 chevy nose on it. (my 70 chevy has a GMC nose on it) To swap from 69 - 72 to 67 - 68, you'll basicly need the entire front clip. The core support, fenders, hood, grill, and if the truck is a 71/72, you'll need bumper and outer bumper brackets. About the only thing you can re-use, is the inner fenders, hood hinges, light bulbs/head lights, and the bolts. (headlight buckets need to be 67/68 too... NOT the same) |

Re: front sheetmetal interchangeability
What he said. Also don't forget the core support mounting bushings and hood latch....they're '67-'68 specific as well.

Re: front sheetmetal interchangeability
LMC listed one p/n for 67 - 72 chevy or GMC, so I used the original 36 year old 72 bushings and bolts with no issues.
But you are correct about the latch assembly... 67/68 Last edited by Longhorn Man; 10-21-2008 at 11:32 PM. |

Re: front sheetmetal interchangeability
I've gotta deal nailed down on a 69 panel.... the grille is junk and replacement from lmc is $900 (ouch)
Will a 71-72 grille and bumper fit on this front end? |

Re: front sheetmetal interchangeability
yes, but a 71/72 latch assembly will be needed too.

Re: front sheetmetal interchangeability
This is a 1971 gmc cab. The core supports are the same but the latch assembly and the grille support under the latch are year specific.
If you take a close look at the picture of the front, the core support is from the 71 gmc. You have to modify the headlight area, but everything else bolts up.
