Re: need some help on this one...
I think a 268 high energy cam from comp cams would be good.

Lots of threads on cams - do a search, you should find more than you need. Sounds like a great motor.

Call a cam company. They will ask about a thousand questions but they will also set you up with a cam that works for your, vehicle, driving style, gearing, tranny and any other thing you can think of.This is what they do for a living and it's free.

Re: need some help on this one...
I'm going to say that you definitely will void the warranty. Also, if you plan on doing it yourself I think there is something about a qualified mechanic installing it for the warranty to be in effect anyway.

Re: need some help on this one...
Best idea yet...I'm not a fan of GM crate motors. The 268 cam is OK but if you want a thumpy idle you'll want to look further up the list.
Edelbrock has some good top end kits that make a rebuild easy. Call them and tell them what you have now and what you want...they can help with the cam, heads, intake, carb, EFi, etc.

Re: need some help on this one...
Not really....give them the block casting number [driver's side near the firewall behind the valve cover]
and tell them what you will be doing the most with your truck. They will ask what transmission and rear axle ratio you have and maybe another question or two, then they should be able to give you an answer.

Re: need some help on this one...
I hear ya...that one is a hard one to get to but with a very bright light it's not too bad.
Alternate plan....go 60mph and record your rpms. Then measure your rear tire height at the tread there's an online calculator [don't have the link but I'll bet someone does] that figures axle ratios for you given the above info.

Re: need some help on this one...
You measure the tire's height....from the pavement to the topmost tread in the wheelwell. Probably 27" or more up to about 30" tall.
