Can I go to the salvage yard and pull power disc brakes off say a 78' chevy and it bolt right up to my truck?? or is it more complicated than that? I would really like to get power disc brakes on my truck for less than a grand

71 and up had disc brakes 70 and below had drums. You have a few options, replace the whole cross member or pull A arms and spindles plus tie rods,pitman arm

There are a dozen or more ways to do it.You should use Krue's excellent FAQ's list to search all the options and pick which works for you.You can also check out some of the BB vendors for drop spindles and springs.They can set you up with 6 lug kits also.

JFYI,The 78 spindles on out will work but you will need to do some ball joints to match.There are also some differences in the tie rod ends.Again I suggest going to the FAQ's and reading up on what all needs to be changed.
