Steering columns

Has anyone taking a stock steering column and shorten it about 4"? The steering wheel is way to close to me. Feel to cramped behind the wheel!!

Re: Steering columns

Most of us with wheel-o-phobia (too much girth) either go to a smaller steering wheel or put in a tilt column. I haven't heard of anyone making their column shorter, so you might have a new idea. You can also wait for the seat springs to give up, that seems to leave a little more room.

Re: Steering columns

I have been looking at ours, looks like some slight mod to the column bracket and cut and weld the shaft will get the wheel 2-3 inches closed to the dash. Think i might put a newer '80's collapsible shaft in while I'm doing it
