Not my day: original 67 K10 fire truck

Just wasn't meant to be as a friend missed me on the phone call bid and let it go for $2900 in Grand Island, Nebraska this morning.! This truck had 43,000 original miles! All original paint , factory 67 Chevy 4x4 10 series with it's original 327 engine and 4 speed. Came from a rural area fire department and he said it was rust free top to bottom. He read the glove box label and beside the KE147 model it had options 4 speed transmission, locking front hubs and am radio. Pretty spartan but a red on red longbox fleetside with it's factory paint and a true 4x4. Dang, dang, dang, I still can't believe I missed this one an hour from my house. I hope someone who appreciates this rare original piece bought it.

Re: Not my day: original 67 K10 fire truck

Original, except for the rims of course. I could invision a set of gloss black 16 inch wheels with tall narrow mud and snow tires and white and red trim hubcaps to complete the "1967 look".

Re: Not my day: original 67 K10 fire truck

I know of another similar deal-in Wyoming. I was recently working in Lyman, Wyoming, building a school. As part of that, there is a fire department inspection and I had seen that the fire chief had a nice '68 long bed at his house, so I was asking him about it. He told me that it was his next door neighbor's truck. But we talked about trucks in general for a few minutes and he told me that the Lyman FD owned a '70 (I think he said '70) that they were going to auction off sometime in the semi-near future. He wasn't too sure about it in general, but he knew it had a utility bed on it and-get this-only 8000 miles! I asked him if I could see it, but he said that it is in storage in Evanston, Wyo, and that he was to busy to go there and let me look right then. And then I got to thinking about it and decided that I probably shouldn't go see it 'cause I would just somehow end up with it. I'm sure if someone were to contact the Lyman, Wyoming FD and get ahold of the cheif he would tell you about it.

Re: Not my day: original 67 K10 fire truck

This truck was sold at auction by a local bank as the rod shop owner went broke. The rod shop owner had bought it from a northwest sandhill's area fire dept and put the AM wheels/tires on it. I had seen this for sale by him about 6 months ago in a local car shopper but figured it was just a body swapped 4x4 piecer and painted red for the $4500 asking price back then. Dang after my buddy got to the auction and called me with the VIN # and the original condition I couldn't believe it. He was going to call me when they got to it as they were selling 20 some vehicles at that sale. What a time to have your phone connection not work. He said he just didn't want to bid it up without me on the line. As for the factory 4x4 hubcaps, I don't believe GM put them on standard or optional in 67 or 68 according to my 67 and 68 truck data book. I do know they did paint the stock wheels all gloss black in those two years. It would make an awesome survivor being red and the first year available 327 in the 4x4 pickups.

Yes, the factory thought the hubcaps would eventually fall off on a 4x4 during these years, and did not install them, put I would put them on the rear anyway. Interesting, some earlier models and later models did come with hubcaps on 4x4's.

Re: Not my day: original 67 K10 fire truck

My 59 Chevy 3100 Napco 4x4 even had the 4x4 bowtie hubcaps. I bought the truck from the original owner and when he rounded up the original 16" wheels from his barn he came out with the front two cutout hubcaps in near perfect condition. He said they had been hanging on the barn wall from about the first time he changed a tire. He couldnt find the back two but I was thrilled to get those fronts. So they had 4x4 hubcaps even back then.
