VIN Decoding

Does anyone have a link or something that breaksdown the VIN codes from our trucks? I just got a 65 with 61 cab fleet this weekend and want to see what it came with. My title says it is a 65 and the VIN on the cab is the same.

Thanks.

Question Re: VIN Decoding

Go to www.stovebolt.com ,click on " tech tips " ,under " restoration " click on " identifying your truck " . Go down and click on " vin buster " or " dechiphering your vin " . . Not sure if info you're looking for is there , but this site has great info . Good Luck !

Re: VIN Decoding

FYI, the VIN on a '60-'66 does not give accessory, factory or dealer-installed, information, only the year, model, bed style, wheel base, origin and production number off the line.

The build sheet on the back side of the glove box door or between the seat springs and the burlap, behind the driver side of the seat back, will provide the optional equipment originally installed on the truck.

Re: VIN Decoding

Also if it's the truck in your avatar it looks like that is a GMC. so I would check

http://www.6066gmcguy.org/VinNumber.htm

Great site for info on 60-66 GMC's.

Re: VIN Decoding

Ummmm...

It's a Chevy, maybe the Halogen lights throw it off.

Re: VIN Decoding

LILRED66 has got it right. The VIN# is pretty much useless during these years, especially on drive train info.
