New to the forums and i had a question about a truck i just bought!

Well first of all I would like to say hello, Im Robert from Ohio and I just purchased my first 73-87 chevy truck, I bought a 1978 chevy k10 stepside shortbed 4x4. Well my question is this, In it right now there is a 3 speed manual transmission, it had 3 on the colum but the p/o moved it from the column to the floor. I know this transmission is the least liked that they put in to this truck, plus i would rather have a 4 speed manual or an automatic transmission, so if i were to get like a th350 or somthign similar would it just bolt up to the transfer case and all of the drive shafts still work or would i have to get different shafts, also if anybody woudl recoment a better tranny it would be appreciated.

Um so you want to put in a sm465 the (4) speeed manual or an automatic TH350 or TH400. The automatics you will just need a Torque Convertor and the tranny and the lines to run it with like kick down and the cooler lines up to the rad. The manual you will just need a new pressure plate and I would do clutch at the same time. What kind of motor and T-Case do you have? Your drive shafts should bolt up to the T-Case you should n't have to change them around.

it has a 350 and the guy says its a 203 transfer case but unless it was modified its not a 203 because it has lockouts on the front.
