Pan hard bar

Doing a rearend swap to a 79 truck axle. What have you guys been using to connect the exist pan hard bar to the new axle? Thanks

I'm waiting to do my swap. you have a few choices depending on what year,63-66 are easier, 60-62 are a bit harder ( mine is a 60 )
You can carefully cut your old pan hard ( some call it a trac bar) brackets off of the old rear end and re weld it to the new one.
You can fab up a custom one or if you can buy a rear end conversion kit .
The kit comes with a pan hard bar , weld on brackets, and weld on axle seats. Oh yea you will need to add the axle seats, either new or cut your old ones out and reuse them . Hope this helps

I see multiple uses of "pan hard", as two words. It is actually one word, Panhard. It is from the Panhard auto company of France, who invented this bar we now call the Panhard Rod aka Panhard Bar aka Track bar.

So did you do the swap? How was it ?

I had no problems at all, it went in as easy as can be.

So how did you mount the panahard? any pics? also how did you set the pinion angle ?

I used the same bar, the location on the frame stayed the same, but the location on the axle was different. I was able to acquire a 67 rear-end that had the mount on the housing, so all I had to do was shorten the pan-hard bar and weld it back together, and add the perches. Sorry but I don’t have any pictures. But I do live in Oklahoma, and I’m changing to the 5 bolt patern.

COOL!! I am hoping to do my swap soon. As far as setting the pinion angle , did you have any issues ?

None what so ever, I just put the axle on some jack stands, leveled the perches, and measured the center of the yoke, then set the new axle on the jack stands set the yoke at the same distance from the ground and leveled the new perches and welded in place.

I put a mid 70s rear end into my 64 Suburban a few years ago.

For the axle saddles, I bought the Early Classic Enterprises saddles and welded them on after removing the stock leaf spring saddles from the newer rearend.

I used an Early Classic Enterprises super track bar that mounts to the right side trailing arm U bolt for the panhard duties.

Very easy overall.

that's interesting, anything other than welding of the panhard is foreign to me, didn't realize you could bolt one.
