Personally i would prefer analog guages. My friend has a Buick with digital guages and its kind of confusing to drive. Plus when the sun is shining directly on the guage cluster you cant see the numbers. It s much easier for your brain to comprehend a guage physically moving rather than just a number. That's just my 2 cents

I like an analog gauge better than digital, but I don't like the factory gauges in these trucks. I don't trust the accuracy or the fact oil pressure, temp and volts have no numbers, just "red" areas. I've looked at serveral ways to get better gauges in. I don't like the ones where people put aftermarket ones in the factory holes. The only other practical and clean way to do it is with digital. I've seen pics on digital's website, but i'd like to see one in the truck.

Good thing my brain doesn't work well with digital or analog. I always assume my gage is reading low when I'm following slow people!

Got any pics of digital installed in an old dash? Always thought that would be neat if it was done right.

Dakota Digital sells a kit, dash and all. Don't know how much though, probably will scare me when i do.

I'm in the middle of having an aluminum dash made for my '69 to install a set of VDO aftermarket gauges in. I'll have it back in a month, if you can wait, I'll post a pic of it assembled and installed. Should look really sweet. I went with the VDO Millenium gauges. I paid 400 for the gauges and the dash plate will be $160, so $560 total invested.

I think the dakota digital stuff is way cool. It is what I plan to go with.

i dont care too much for digital gauges they just arent as quick to respond as an analog guage especially when it comes to tachs. i have seen them read totally incorrect if it gets too cold and also the glare problem. maybe i just like watchin the needle move though lol

Maybe they would be cooler if they were not using digital read outs that look like dated Texas Instr. Calculators from the early 70's.

yeah, a digital representation of an analog guage might be interesting, but I do prefer the look of the stock guages, even if they're not very accurate.... they've been accurate enough to keep it on the road for 30 years, so a new set otta be good for another 30...

I want to install something more accurate than my factory gauges, too. and I'd like to add a tranny temp gauge, but haven't figured out what to go with yet. Now I have aftermarket gauges under the dash to monitor engine temp and volts, but want to get it all in the dash eventually.

I should have mentioned that the blue truck isn't mine. It was posted on Ebay a while back, and I kept a pic of the dash.

I'd surely endorse the idea of building an aluminum dash and intalling you favorite VDO analog guages in all the right places, hell you may even want to consider a clock in her too????

My Blazer has factory gauges and tach,but under the LH side of dash out of view is White Autometer 2 and some odd inch engine vitals oil,temp,battery,if you want a accurate tach go with aftermarket.i prefer the look of a restored factory unit,but the vitals arent hooked up oil,water,battery(well tach is)but a good one thats accurate is also.speedo,fuel,and tach are only thing hooked up,hell they arent even 100% right.technology ha its advantages,if anyone has
a new Dakota setup thats complete id trade a speedwarnind,tach,vac setup.
