Hey guys, ive got a question about my speedo. Im surprised because i searched on here and didnt see a topic about it. Ok i bought this truck about 6 months ago. At first it seemed like the speedo didnt work at all.. then it seemed like sometimes it would kick on, but then stop working and just go back n forth bouncing. Well now it seems like it works more and more and doesnt normally bounce or or stop working but sometimes it does. Im thinking that that plastic gear that goes on where the speedo cable plugs up on the tranny might be worn. Well i know im lazy, i havnt checked it but like i said its working 90% of the time now. Im really trying to get everything in working order so im tryin to figure it out. What is the name of the little plastic gear. I thought it was like speedo drive gear but it doesnt pull up nething. someone please tell me or tell me what they think it could be. 90 burb 5.7 w/ 700r4. 4x4 1/2

Hey, I have the same problem w/ my '89 pickup...mine only works 50% of the time. I found out though that if I hit the dash when it isn't working, then it starts working again, lol. This strategy only works about 50% of the time...so altogether my speedo only works about 75% of the time.

my bosses truck does this he just slaps the piss out of it and it works again for awhile -must be something loose inside of cluster

when i got my truck my speedo was doing that also. i had to replace it. there is most likely a loose or broken connection on the speedo. the guy i got it from had already got a replacement from the junk yard. thats what i know about it.
