Gas gauge problem HELP!!!!

Im pretty sure there's another thread about this but im to lazy to search for it at the moment. So my gas gauge is not working I have checked the gauge with a test light everything tested ok so I moved on, I took the sending unit out to find the float had a hole and would fill with gas and sink to the bottom of the tank. I cleaned the float and fixed it with a soldering iron it worked for a day then the gauge just read empty again so I pulled the sending unit out again thinking the float had broke again but it was fine. I ordered a new sending unit from lmc and put that in thiking it would fix the problem again it worked for about 2 days then the gauge went back to empty. I have no idea what the problem is with the stupid gauge please help me!!!!!!

Re: Gas gauge problem HELP!!!!

When you ordered the new sending unit, did you use your known good float again, or did you use the float they sent with the unit. I have had nothing but bad luck with newer floats getting holes in them Now I solder and test them for a few days before I even install them You could have a bad float... again. There are other possibilities, but I would check the float again.

Re: Gas gauge problem HELP!!!!

I had a similar problem with my 69 it was the wire going to the sending unit. Broken under rocker panel. Replaced entire wire and it works fine now.
