1976 K10 Project truck

This is a family "heirloom" that has been passed down and traded between cousins for a $1. It has been pastured for about 2 years. I am putting her on the 4 or 5 year plan to be "done" hopefully running by spring. I'm open to suggestions on what would look good. I plan on doing it all myself and the budget is tight so it will be a while for big items. I'd like to keep her stock body and a small body lift and 3-4 inch susp lift. Here is "Smoke"

hey it's one of those mossy oak 350's . seriously, love the k10's. Good luck on the build. EDIT: since you asked for suggestions, I think a stock-ish rebuild with a 4" suspension lift would be nice. Don't do the body lift please.

The first thing I would do is get her under cover and asses the rust issues, don't let it get any worse, slap on some rust killer until you can get to it, then price up patch and body panels so you know where you are at before you start.

Got the truck home this weekend. Been sitting for 3 years, replaced the starter, put a new battery in it, and put a little gas in the carb...fired right up. rough but running. gave it a tune up today. the fun begins

here she is loaded up and on her way home, made my best effort to get her loaded under her own power. alot of people doubted I could do it, but where there is a will there is a way. ( Gotta love my 02 2500hd crew being a work horse!)

looks like your passengers side rear cab mount is toast. I like the black paint and the trim. It looks neat flattened like that. I would do a 4 inch lift and some nice 33's. The more stock the better i think. It is gonna be a battle with the rot but It is fixable just a matter of will. It has sentimental value going for it!!!! I also would avoid a body lift. They stand to weaken the mounting points and add stress to the mounting areas. Plus I don't like raising bumpers and making filers. Many feel that a body and suspension looks better though.

what every you do that is a good looking project truck and it is great the mossy motor came to life!

If you didn't drain the fuel tank you probably have a bunch of junk in the carb. like moisture rust and varnish. If you can get your hands on a rebuild kit do it and then flush out the fuel tank. Dropping the tank might be the best way if you have the time to get it out. She's a little rough around the edges but you can do it. Parts are plentiful. Enjoy!

84 400, the cab mounts are among many parts that are toast! I don't plan on this being a daily driver, but still road worthy, so I don't think I'll do more than a 4" lift. I have decided not to do a body lift, they are just cheaper.

87Bob, there was very little fuel in it, so i've put a fuel treatment in it, I will probably replace the tank eventually, but while it sits for a while I probably won't drain it. I've never rebuilt a carb, but I plan on trying my hand with this one. Engine is def getting new rings and bearings at the least. i also plan on working the tranny over, but again, no experience.

OK then get your self one of those see through fuel filters (their cheap) find a spot and cut the line and install it use the screw type clamps not those spring loaded ones that usually come with them. That way you can see if you have a lot of crud coming through the lines and change it when needed. The screw clamps will seal better then the spring loaded ones. When rebuilding the carb take lots of pictures as you break it down or do a video of the diss-assembly it will make re-assembly a breeze. As far as your parts search there have been many good body parts show up from your part of the country. I have seen a cab, doors front ends and even beds. Keep an eye out for them on the for sale board here and on that big auction site. Do you have an LMC catalog? Their up the road in Overland Park, KS they have just about anything you can't find used. Keep us posted on your progress and we'll cheer you on!

yup the parts board, cregslist, LMc are all good places to look. Carb rebuilds are very straight forward. The best advice I can give is sit down and do it in one sitting rather then taking it apart and coming back to it. It makes things go a lot smoother.

A bigger lift will defiantly make this truck more fun.

Those are some sweet deals on sheet metal. Hells bells that cab you could work up while still driving yours and the metal looked good in the door openings.

i started with worse than that on my 76 2wd. turned out the best thing to do was to strip it to the chassis and start from there... it was easier to find a cab and truck it in than to fix the old rusted one in worse shape than yours... good luck and keep us updated
