Right after filling her up I decided to fold the seat forward and I saw the drip drip drip right at the sending unit to (vertical) gas line connection. Leak stopped after I started the truck. Shortly after turning off it started dripping again. I took it home and drained 5 gallons out of it and that stopped the leak. I've already tightened this connection. Is there an o-ring or compression farrel in there that is worn out....or should a little thread sealant do the job? Thanks, Bob

Yes, there's a big O ring at that connection and hopefully you're close to a good hardware store where you can find another one. I'm sure the major vendors have them as well however.
Oh, almost forgot- you might be able to get away with bending the tabs that hold the sending unit in place. That may be just enough downward force to stop the leak-for free!

I have heard that soap works ? I have never tried it.

i'd try cleaning both parts of the tubing connection with very fine steelwool they may have deposits on them preventig a good seal on the tubing connection

I think he is talking about the inverted flare connection where the sender and pipe meet.
possible a kerfagled flare on the line? remove for inspection. if this in fact the problem I would cut the line a few inches back and fab a new line. when I make new flares I dont completely finish the flare. I let the fitting do the last little bit. I would also not use hose for connecting the old with new.

70ChevyCST, I'd just start by wrapping the threads in teflon tape and trying that for starters. Actually, I'd just put a wrench on it first and tighten it. You never mentioned if you had done that already.

Then I'd try the tape.

Yes...sorry for the confusion. I did not mean the big o-ring where the sending unit mounts/drops into the tank. I meant the connection of the metal tubes right outside sending unit (sending unit to gas line). That connection behind the seat leaks when tank is full. I thought I had it fixed a while ago when I discovered the truck had a non-vented cap on the tank. During the hot summmer months, the gas expanded and must have leaked at this connection...filling the cab full of gas fumes. I bought the proper gas tank cap (stant 11623 vented-suggested by you guys-thank you) and the gas smell went away until yesterday when I filled her up. So either the flare is damaged or there's a build up of crud huh? I'll take her apart ,clean ,inspect and use teflon tape on threads and go from there....If this doesn't work I guess it's time to cut and reflare huh?? Thanks..Bob
