Help: Will wheels from a 1998 Chevy 2500 fit a 1977 1 ton 3500?
Hello. I have a 1977 1 ton 3500 Chevy ramp truck that has Aluminum wheels. One of my front wheels was stolen with a brand new tire. I found a set of wheels for a 1998 GMC/Chevy 2500, 8 lug x 6.5".They are 6" wide. I have looked all over and can't find out if these would fit.I know the 6" width is fine, the 8 lug x 6.5" should be fine. I guess the question would be the center hole size. Would these be different?
I have this ramp truck and a 74 El Camino SS-454 so I will be coming here now that I found out about this forum. Many thanks in advance. ky car guy1 at yahoo dot com |

I'm not sure about the backspacing if it would work or not

Other than backspacing, the lug spacing is the same for 3/4 and 1 tons from around 1967-present (8x6.5). I think the center holes are the same, but that may only be on SRW 1 tons. The backspacing should be a lot different on duallys because theres a big spacer on or built into the front brake rotor. If it's a SRW truck they swap over no problem.

I have studied the pictures. It looks these wheels have the same backspacing as my present 3 wheels. 4 minus the stolen wheel. I think the guy may be mistaken about these coming from a 3/4 ton 2500 and should be a 1 ton 3500. I can see the rust mark on 2 of the wheels where the steel ring would have been. He is 800 miles from me or else I would go see them in person to check. Thanks for all the information so far.

I have 2003 HD wheels on my 78 CS 3/4 ton, they fit just fine.

I ordered the wheels on Thursday and they should be here Tuesday. In the pictures he sent me they look like 1 ton dually wheels and that's what I am looking for. I will make a post once I receive them. Thanks everyone.

I received the wheels and they look like the ones I need for my 1 ton truck. I haven't put the one yet I need but pretty sure it is the one I need with the offset and 8 lug pattern.
I think the salvage yard I bought them from mis-marked the truck they came off of. One of the wheels has a larger center hole then the others. I think this was made for a Ford truck since they need more clearance there then Chevy's, but the 8 lug pattern is the same. Thanks. |
