Re: heater core went out

Yikes!!! Have fun. Someone should be able to post a link on how to do it. I would take out the inner fender if it were me. It not that difficult to remove the inner fender with the wheel off and you can clean around the battery tray and fender cup while you're at it.

Re: heater core went out

When I did mine I dropped the fender well out of the way. I didn't take it all the way out, just took the bolts out to drop it down a bit. Seems like I took the pass. side hinge loose too, but I can't remember. As stated above, one of these guys will know it 100%. It wasn't too much of a skank; just takes some time.

Re: heater core went out

the fenderwell and hinge are the hard part. Then you just remove the bolts holding the heater box onto the firewall, there's a cable that can be a total bear to remove.
If it is a real nice truck, you'll wanna get a heater box gasket and blower motor gasket too.

Re: heater core went out

You mentioned under the hood so we are all assuming its a non-AC truck. If A/C, your heater core is on the inside of the cab, and removal does not require messing with the fender well.

Re: heater core went out

You will want to reseal the heater box to the firewall.the removal of the cable is easy if you look under the dash you will see a small plastic plug with the cable run through it.Pop the plug out with a small screwdriver and you can get a finger in there and lift the cable off the pin it fits on.Reassembly is the same.

Re: heater core went out

I never drop the wheel well, the stupid clip nuts always snap, and I HATE fighting them. It's been a long time since doing one, but somehow I manage to get the bottom housing bolts with a 1/4" drive u joint on a long extension.
