front brakes

ok so i'm hearing this squealing noise when i'm driving my 72 gmc. it sounds like the tell tale noise from the "chirper" that gm uses on its brake pads as a wear indicator. that and i really don't have much of an idea as to how much wear is on the brakes so i was thinking of just redoing the brakes anyway. i usually redo the brakes when i get a "new" vehicle anyway. so i was wondering of all these pads from the parts america link, which are gonna be my best choice? i go to the local shucks cause i know most of the people there and i know they offer a military discount

well, for one , the brakes arent like oil, you dont know how long its been there, so you better change it.
and for two, pull all four wheels and inspect the thickness of the meat that is left on the pads and or shoes, if it is needed than I would change em....... if it has wear indicators and they are rubbing , that is a good sign that its due, if you are still running pads that dont rub the indicators and there is plenty of meat left on em, and you want to rid it of the annoying squeel , than throw on some good name pads ie. raybestos, wagner, bendix, it really doesnt make alot of difference, they are organic pads anyway, they arent semi metalic, you might want to mic. the rotors/or drums to see if they have enough meat to meet spec's.
anytime you buy a newer vehicle , it would not be necessary to change out the brakes , only unless they are worn, or the squeel is due to have gotten hot and glazed em up causing you issues...... good luck, my two cents only

well i was going to look at all 4 corners when i do the fronts. the last time i took any kind of look at the brakes was when i replaced my front tires, but i didn't look too closely. i was more concerned at the time about getting the front tires changed out when i first got the truck cause one of the tires went flat just after i took delivery on the truck. but out of the pads they have listed there, which ones do you think will suit my purpose?

what is your purpose, do you plan on mountain driving ? drag racin it ? or snow country? actually , I believe you wont do wrong by any choice, like I said , they are of organic material, non-metalic, but be sure to mic, your rotors , if they are turnable, you might want to true em up and get you a new break in finish, also a non directional would be of interest if you are glazin em.

i think that i might also go with new rotors to be on the safe side.
