What size tailshaft for my TH-350?
I am putting an automatic from a 70 4x4 into my 67 2WD step, and there is no tailshaft on the trans. I am trying to figure out if I will need a 6 or 9 inch tailshaft for it.
thank you. |

Re: What size tailshaft for my TH-350?
I believe it's the longer shaft of the two. When I did an inline 6 to V-8, the trany place told me I needed a long tail cone. Of course I had to explain that the original 3 spd was about the same length as a short cone turbo 350 and that my new V-8 was sitting in the inline 6 position....farther back than an original V-8. He told me it wouldn't work, but it did. That was until I bought some V-8 trees and moved the engine forward. Then I bought a new T350 with a 9 inch cone.

Re: What size tailshaft for my TH-350?
if you wanted it to be as original, then it would be a short shaft tranny.
However, that's only in 69 & up since 67 and 68 didn't get TH350s, they either got a powerglide, or a short shaft 400. That 4X4 tranny case is worth more than a 2 wheel drive one. There's a lotta guys out there that don't realize you can convert a 2 wheel drive tranny to 4X4, so they will pay more money for that 4X4 case. You may be able to sell it, buy the tranny to replace it, and pocket some coin. |
