What did you get done? 11/09

I was on call this weekend, so I did the usual. I worked! Beyond that, I cleaned my daily drivers, got the oil changed and my tires rotated.

The weather here was picture perfect, so I spent time outside. My wife and I enjoyed a long bike ride through the neighborhood, then sat by the pool and took in the view.

This evening we went to our neighbors house for a fall block party.

What did you get done?

Re: What did you get done? 11/09

First weekend in a long time I got anything done truck related. I finally swapped the carpet in my truck, going to pull it back out this week sometime though to get my new seats and sound deadener installed. I was curious how the $50 carpet kit would fit and it turned out pretty good.

Started the blower install on the Blazer. I got tired of waiting to buy the heads I want so we decided to pull the motor and just install the cam, clean everything up and install the blower and just do the heads when I can afford them. Got everything done on the motor, just need to clean up the engine bay, paint it and stuff it back in, I am so pumped!!!!

Cussed the washer when it decided to break. Cussed and threw the vacuum outside when it stopped working and then started to pull parts off of my donor truck. Then darkness settled in and I didn't feel like bringing out the tripod lights so I called it a day

Finally started cleaning up the garage Saturday so I can get on the Camaro. Sooner I get it done, the faster I can get on the '57 SWB Stepside.

Test fitted the 18's I took off the lowrider on the camaro. Looked pretty good.

Re: What did you get done? 11/09

87lowrider, how'd you do that? Is the Camaro a big pattern, or is your truck a little pattern?

I spent Saturday driving about an hour to go check out a possible trade. A 65 C10 for my 69 Chevelle. Turned out not to be a very good deal for me.

Installed new ignition and started on the sports steering wheel only to find a part missing from the kit.

Spent the rest of the week end removing our fire place.

Re: What did you get done? 11/09

Wow.... 1st birthday already. Time will really start flying by now.

I did a little time @ work yesterday & then swung by the shop for a little brainstorming w/N2Billet on Tootsie & our hood hinge conundrum when laying out 67-72's.

We also discussed frame mod's in case I can't get the Porterbuilt rear set-up to work with my intended goals. I got outside today & removed the OE center trailing arm crossmember & swapped in a ECE drop c.member for.... (this feels weird to say.....) my..... RestoRod. For the first time in 4yrs, I actually turned a wrench & got dirty working on my long term 15+ year project. I got the c.member installed & took more measurements & will wait to discuss project options w/Nathan.

It felt great that I was actually doing something toward the 1st 67-72 truck I ever owned.

Put a new carb on, changed all the hoses, had the radiator flushed out, changed oil, only been there for 4 years and went to work and then came home.

stayed inside, I think the high for the weekend was around the 35 degree mark. I need to take the engine and trans out of my '86, but that's a little too cold when it's sitting outside.....maybe sometime this coming week.

Got a 700R4 a while back and had my brother-inlaw rebuild it for me (Father-in-law owns a transmission shop...lucky me). Anyway hopefully next weekend I can get it installed along with my Hurst shifter.

Discovered that all three bolts holding the driver side motor mount to the block were GONE. I'm sure you can imagine how much fun it was getting bolts back in there without pulling the motor!! I think I invented a couple new cuss words in the process.

Finally got primer on the 87 burb Saturday. It turned out ok, just needs a lot of wet sanding. Hope I don't see sandpaper for a while after getting this job done.

Re: What did you get done? 11/09

I got the last of my engine compartment detailing done (for a while) and installed a new Demon 650, MSD distributor, hoses, throttle cable and air cleaner. Runs great... I'm really impressed with the Demon, it was a pain to set up (strange/wrong factory settings) but runs great and seems better on gas than my old Holley.

Not alot on the truck for me, only managed to get the brackets swapped off the pedals and onto my manual pedals, now they can go back in. Otherwised oil change my car, rotated tires, put on the snowies, changed the oil in the wifes ride, and took her shopping, plus helped my buddy load a wheel loader and some road plates on his rig all on saturday, then spent sunday at an junk car oval race.

Re: What did you get done? 11/09

Friday:
Went to two junkyards and bought a taillight lense, clear front turn signal lenses, two tires, drivers side window regulator, and collected misc nuts and bolts. Paid little tire shop to mount tires and bought a third. Installed taillight lense. Checked wiring to gas gauge and sending unit.
Saturday:
Removed funky aftermarket auxillary gas tank, cut down exhaust (wish I had a sawzall), removed drivers side step (only one. never had passengers before??), removed air conditioner core thing from front, primered front piece, put on clear lenses, painted rear bumper, relocated license plate back to bumper (was screwed directly into tailgate), ran more tests on gas gauge and sending unit, began pulling excess wires and stuff out from under dash, reconnected heater motor, replaced lower interior light. Ordered new sending unit from Autozone.
Sunday: Painted grill, but was windy and overcast so didn't paint much more. Continued removing old wires and switches, found upper interior light socket and reinstalled and put bulb in. Installed new sending unit, and of course, unfortunately or fortunately, I had a full tank of gas. Gas gauge works now, but I have to run a new wire because the aux gas tank mess rewired the gas system. Put in the missing 2 seat bolts.
All three days included pulling pine needles from everywhere, it was a mountain truck...

Finally got my new stereo installed (KENWOOD DDX812) and my 15" monitor maounted to the dash for my rear view camera/navigation/movie screen. Didn't get it 'glassed in yet. Will have to wait until next spring for that as it's too cold up here right now and I have no garage to work in.

Re: What did you get done? 11/09

It got up to 70 on Thursday last week, and snowed Saturday night until this morning. So the 5 days of good weather was taken advantage of. I got the 3.42 geared rear from the Blazer sandblasted and the springs pulled off, so now its a brake and axle swap, a flip kit, and a couple days work from being under the 76.

Other than that I worked on my wind generator and my heating system for the shop so I can enjoy a warm environment to work in over the cold months. Im building the wind generator with the Blazers front axle and a large satellite TV dish. It should be able to turn 10-15 alternators and make the 3kws I need to heat water to warm the shop. No it isnt specifically truck related, but very inexpensive heat for the shop should sound good to anyone. There will be 4 systems providing heat for the shop when its done, unless one or two will do the job. Only one of them will involve fossil fuels, that is a home made waste oil burner, the rest are relatively passive and require no input from me once they are set up and working.

I have turned into an environmentalist geek because I cant go out and buy parts (or food) if I am heating the shop.

Maybe I can get stuff done all year after this one.

You're correct... they are different. I had a spare 1" adapter / spacer... PFM! I need 3 more. I'll get them from the tire store I guess.
