hey guys i was wondering. I also own a 67 GTO ( il try to get some pics of it) anyway i was wondering if i could use a gas tank like the one on my GTO and mount it between the frame rails. i know id have to move the rear crossmember. on that tank the filler neck comes out in back of the license plate. the plate flips down to reveal the filler neck. Has anyone tried this on their truck? i saw it on an episode of Trucks on spike but they never explained what fab work went into it to mount it. talk to ya guys later. il try to get pics of the steering column too on the engine compartment side tomorrow. tonight i sanded and painted the underside of the fleetside bed i found and estimates for sandblasting the frame.

i just got used gas tank from a 68 chevelle i dont know what size it is but it looks exactly the same as the GTO tank thats mounted between the frame rails. im going to try to mount the tank under the frame as soon as i get my taxes back im trying to find some pics of my GTO. the only ones i have are actual pics and i dont have a scanner. theres tons of snow in front of the garage door here. as soon as it clears up il snap some from my phone and post 'em.

I had thought about this a couple months ago and posted the same question.

I did some research and took some measurements and I don't think it is possible. You can do a Camaro tank, but it won't be between the frame rails though.

Here's mine from a 55 Chevy Sedan. We went this route to keep it tucked up in the frame to hide it better with a roll pan. Really good fit with very minor, do it yourself modifications.

uhm i tryed to find a sending unit for this tank i have in the pic but. it looks totally different than the pictures of chevelle tanks ive seen. im starting to think it came out of a camaro because of the design around of the sending unit and the hole where its mounted. Do u guys recognize what this tank would have came out of? my 67 GTOs gas tank has the sending unit mounted in the back side of the tank and this has the sending unit mounted on top of the tank. il measure the opening for the sending unit tomorrow after work.

Try a 69 Camaro.........Also, I agree with "aboyer". The Camaro tank will work, but it is 39 1/8 inches wide. You have to mount this under the frame rails and it extends out about 2-3 inches on each side.

I think the problem with this style of tank/filler is that the tank sets almost even with the filler.This would make it slower/harder to get enough drop to fill the tank.If you curve up to the bottom of the bed then the filler may be under stuff if you haul in the truck.

No, it doesn't. The filler is located directly behind the license plate, which sits at pretty much the same level as the frame rails. The entire Camaro tank sits below the frame rails, making the top of the tank at least 4 inches below the filler point. See the pics posted previously in this thread. They show what words can't.
