I have a posi question

I took the cover off my 71 rear the other day. I was a little disappointed to find 3.73 gears[ I have a fresh th350 on the floor] I will be looking to put in a posi unit. Will I need a 4 series carrirer? Jim

Re: I have a posi question

3.73 is a four series carrier in the truck , the 3.07 is a 3 series carrier.

Re: I have a posi question

3.73's are at the point you can use either 3 or 4 series carrier. One you will need a spacer for. I like randys ring and pinnion, great support and advise.

What's wrong with the 3.73's? Are they too deep for ya? They do suck on the highway!!

Re: I have a posi question

so could you put a 4.10 ratio out of a maximum slip into a posi? i have a 3.73 posi carrier, but have 4.10's (i believe) in my truck now and want to slap the posi under it.

Re: I have a posi question

Yes you can use your 3.73 posi carrier w/ your 4.10 gears, as long as you have a 4 series 3.73 carrier and not the 3 series 3.73 carrier- difference is in the thickness of gears. Check your 4.10 ring along side your 3.73 ring if same thickness you are good to go.
