opinions please
I picked up a 84' GMC 3/4 ton longbed with a 350 and a granny 4spd from a friend a while back (traded my 94' honda civic for it he needed something that got some mpg's) the thing is straight as an arrow
never had a dent in it.It was my friends grandfather's truck and he only used it for a camping rig has 42,000 org miles on it right now. My plans are to do 3" spindles up front with bags and either a 2 bar setup or a 4 bar with bags in the rear.As for the drivetrain I plan on changing the granny box for a 5 speed trans and warm the engine up a bit.Now we get to the part where I need some oppinons. I have been trying to make up my mind if I want to cut the frame and make a shortbed or put a pair of fenders on the bed with fat tires laid out.I have seen many a crew cab daully laid out but not a reg. cab daully. Any thoughts? |

Re: opinions please
sounds like you got yourself a good truck... and i love the maybe a T5 conversion idea. i have seen some pretty nice dropped long beds with bags and such that extra 10sqft of space in the bed can help out alot. with frame notches and stuff...
i cant say i am too keen on the idea of making it a dualie tho, my only source for comparison tho is single cab duallie dodges and 94 chevys. but if you think you can pull it off go for it.. thats what makes this stuff cool... the fact you didnt buy it like you got it. oh and welcome to the site!

Re: opinions please
If you really want a short wheel base truck slammed, I would sell your and buy a swb truck. By the time you change the transmission, cut the frame, covert the suspension, you would much better off find a truck closer to what you really want.
BTW- Welcome to the forum, and please post pics. We love pics...

Re: opinions please
As for the susp. I found some spindles that are 3" drop that are made to go on to a 3/4 ton but use the 1/2 ton rotors for around $300 so not much diference compared to reg 1/2 ton spindles. But I found some 20" 8 lug rims I like if I don't do the dually fenders. The tranny I all ready have I also have a turbo 400 I could put in or a muncie M21 easy swap.
As for the frame I have all the equip. and then some to pull that off. Besides it is basiclly a new truck in side and out. |
