pickup headliner chrome install

Is it a pain to install the headliner and '69-'72 deluxe chrome trim for it on a truck that has never had a headliner? The new chrome trim has several rectangle clips molded to it and they seem to snap into holes in the body and then screw in at the ends. That is alot of tiny holes to make! Has anyone done this install?

Re: pickup headliner chrome install

yes it's a pain because the trim snaps into rectangulae holes in the roof and you's have to cut them into the roof panel in the proper spots//the headliner just is glued in place not real hard if you plan ahead on how to brace it while the glue sets

Re: pickup headliner chrome install

Thanks for the reply! The customer wants this, so I will charge the actual labor of the install no matter how long it takes. Instead of gluing the headliner board up to the roof I am going to use the 3M Dual Lock Reclosable Tape like this.

Re: pickup headliner chrome install

I used some very small like 1/4 inch screws for the trim. I just snapped the plastic snaps off of the trim. It would be very difficult to cut the little rectangular slots into the roof. It is a really close fit between the roof and roof liner. Be careful with the drill and putting the screws in.

Re: pickup headliner chrome install

I have installed headliner trim in cabs without slots by using a die grinder to remove the tabs from the trim and using a thin bead of 2 part epoxy to glue it to the roof. Where the OEM screw holes are, I drilled the holes in the cab to install screws to help support is as stock. Then I used blue masking tape to hold it while it set up. Sorry, no pics, but it looks as good as stock.

Just a thought, but I would think that you would have to use a bunch of those. Otherwise, the head liner will sag in areas they are not supporting when the temp heats up in the summer. Gluing is a lot easier IMO.
