See heres the deal, i took a one piece aluminum driveshaft from a long bed S10. I am curious to find out if it will work or not. I am not concerned weather or not I need to have it shortened. Thats not a big deal, since I have a shop close by that can do it if need be. Just shooting up in the air and see where this leads me.

I have a 1 pc in my 68, works fine with no problems. My son has an aluminum drv shaft in his 97 Cobra. Car has a 125 shot of nos on it and he has not twisted the shaft, so I'd say it'll work.

Mine is a 3" aluminum shaft and seams to be holding up really well. I'm planning on hooking up nitrous to mine sometime next year.

A friend put one in 48 ford coupe with a 351 engine works fine . It came out of a ford ranger . It bolted right in . Anyone that has used them in our trucks could you give info . Like what it came out of and did you have to modify ?

The biggest reason, Is I am unsure if maybe if they were ballanced different fro the newer trans. It has some kind of balancer on the yoke that goes to the trans. I'm sure I could just try and see how it goes but my truck is a long way from being ready for a driveshaft.

The balancer on the yoke is probably for a 5 speed transmission. The General used them to help with gear noise and vibration. Jim

A friend of mine just put an aluminum driveshaft out of a 95 or so caprice cop car in his shortbox 72 that has a 700r4 trans in it. He said it was the right length and bolted right in but it was in a pile of driveshafts so they are unsure of what it came out of but that cop car was what they guessed to to be anyways. Hope this helps. Maybe somebody could crawl under a cop car down at the station and get a length for us?

The truck i removed it from had an automatic. No matter, I bet your correct about keeping the vibratioons down, because it also has a plastic sleeve almost the whole length of the shaft. I am assuming it it some kind of noise damper.

I talked to my friend about his aluminum driveshaft he is running. He got it out of a 92-98or so crown victoria. (I call em the bubble top fords) They use a 354 u-joint and our trucks use a 369 so he installed a 353 u-joint which has bastard ends on it and it works perfect. He is running a 700R4 in a shortbox. Hope this helps.
