where is a good place to buy a quality torque converter that I'm not paying extra for a name? Do you think companies like TCI or B&M are overpriced? Are there any good alternatives?

HMMMM ,good question. I don't know what you are looking for in particular, but I put a Corvette torque conv. in my truck and it works great. May be a good alternative, If I remember correctly it wasn't all that expensive either.

I was going to suggest Oregon performance transmission too. I've bought a few things from them and will be getting a rebuild kit and converter for a 400 pretty soon.

My engine builder told me a TCI saturday night special would be a good match up to my cam and gears. (They are 400-500rpm increase over stock) I have a mildly built 350 with vortec heads and 3:73s . I need a TC for a 700r4. So far, I'm leaning towards the summit brand TC which I believe is built by TCI.

Go to the website listed below. These guys build a good product and stand behind it. if you want a stall, they will work with you and build it to your needs. I have three of their units of different design and stalls and they stand up to what I give them. They are not too pricey and they build for many of the race teams in the country.

Heve you tried the local transmission parts companies if you have them. We can get any convertor built. They do it somewhere in Tennessee but the are inexpensive

I would suggest TCI, I have never had any trouble with them, and Summit Race Equipment has some of the best prices around.

We sell TCI products but its a lot less expensive to get one made

I got mine from BDR in upstate NY. I don't have alot of miles on mine yet, but so far very pleased. They will build anything you want.

I bought a Redneck Performance converter from them off of e-bay... I punished the heck out of the car (see pic

) 600 plus hp and had NO problems with it... Great prices!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I think I am going with a BDR as MotorSeven suggested. They are going to custom make one for me to my specs for half the cost of a TCI unit and still less than the Summit brand TCI. I also contacted Redneck and their price was by far the most expensive. Weird since a couple people here said they had good deals. Anyway, I'm glad i posted this question, we got some good resources in this thread.
