Shoulder belts

Guys,

I'd like to upgrade to shoulder belts in my '67, but I don't want to lose the "aircraft-style" buckles. Has anyone ever seen shoulder belts with the stock buckles?

Re: Shoulder belts

Our trucks came with the shoulder belt option holes drilled and tapped so I am guessing there were shoulder belts available. They are behind your head on the pillar covered by a plastic cap.

Re: Shoulder belts

Gray Ghost,

Thanks for the reply. I guess my question wasn't really that clear....

I know about the mount points for the shoulder belt. I even have some cheap aftermarket belts to install, but I don't like the look of them - they just don't fit in with the era of our trucks.

I'm wondering if anyone has had shoulder belts made up using their existing stock lap belt buckles.

Re: Shoulder belts

My dad and I looked at a 72 GMC LWB Sierra in Stepehenville Tx a couple of yrs ago that had factory shoulder belts. It was even on the SPID!!! I wish I had taken a pic of both... The only problem was, the truck was for sale as a package deal, the GMC and a wasted 71 or 72 Chevy short bed 4x4 (body GONE from rust). He was only asking around $3k for both trucks, and the plan was to take the good GMC parts and put them on the SWB 4x4chassis. but we were in the middle of restoring dad's 71 SWB step GMC and I was about to get married. DANG DANG DANG!!!

Re: Shoulder belts

i saw a 72 chev lwb in Calgary AB in summer of 2005 that caught my eye. the owner came over and we were talking truck and i asked about the factory shoulder lap belts. he told me his dad bought the truck new in 72 and he had restored it a few years back and that the belts were a factory installed. now in my 72 there is a threaded bolt hole in the "B" piller (that has a plastic filler in it). in 1973 gm had the same thing but not all trucks got shoulder lap belts. so would the 73 to 1987 truck belts interchange to the 1972. that was the only 72 i have seen with the belts

Re: Shoulder belts

It would seem that one could cut the sewing on the belts you intend to use and then resew with the new buckles and ends attached. Or even locate new webbing to if you are concerned about re-sewing the old webbing. I have seen people selling restored seat belts from time to time and I would guess that is what they are doing. Make sure you use a thread that is suitable for this type of work.

Re: Shoulder belts

There ae a couple of options that you can use for what you want to do. Company called Snakeoyl, that restores belts, contact them and send your belts w/ ends, they will rewebb and restore your ends as well- option #2 Contact CS-M Gary Terry, who also restores belts and get the same thing done or option #3 Jerry Brown -Truck shop Jerry can either restore to what you want or provide the info of someone who can. Remember that the going price for restored/ repop shoulder belts is $200+ so be ready to pay if you want it to look original. Hope this helps.

That's great, I've been looking for these. Any ideas on what size to order?

Re: Shoulder belts

I just had my SPID replaced. Here is a pic, with the shoulder belt option showing in the 2nd column, 2nd line. Camera is not that great, so it is a little blurry

Re: Shoulder belts

Wow! Thanks for all the replies!!! I was thinking about having my buckles restored and updated to shoulder belts. After seeing all the options, I may go with one of those you guys posted - looks like several good options.
