Square Bore Carb. and spread bore intake manifold

Hello all... Newbie here, I have a spread bore intake manifold on my 83 C10 pickup, I was going to rebuild the Qjet carb, but decided to purchase a new Edelbrock performer series carb. 1406... My question is I bought the Mr. Gasket (#1932) Open adapter to put my carb on the spread bore intake. After getting home and reading the Edelbrock instruction they say not to use the open adapter and only use the Edlebrock Quadrajet adapter kit. The open adaptor costs $15... The Edelbrock runs $45, does it matter or is Edelbrock trying to get me to spend an extra 30 bucks?

Thanks for the info.

The open adaptors sometimes leave an open space, where the carb doesn't seal, creating a vacuum leak. The E-brock adaptor should work much better, as it should be engineered to route vacuum signals better. The best bet, is a good squarebore intake.

Re: Square Bore Carb. and spread bore intake manifold

just putting in my 2 cents here....i was using the Mr. Gasket open spacer on an old truck of mine for the same carb. and was having issues so i switched to the 4 hole spacer....it makes a HUGE difference... the 4 hole spacer is much better

Re: Square Bore Carb. and spread bore intake manifold

Yo! I've got 30,000+ miles on the '76 Camaro I custom built with a 625 Carter AFB, 1" spacer, and 8004 Weiand manifold. Square to spreadbore. Works perfect and I get 15.5 mpg with a 350hp/411ftlb torque motor.
Why screw with perfection? So I built a nearly identical 350 ci motor for my 3/4 ton 4x4 '78 Chevy P/U,...Holley 600, 2" swirl squarebore adapter, and 8004 Weiand spreadbore intake.

Again, perfect!
We'll see what 6200 lbs and 4.11:1 rear gears does for the gas mileage in this truck! Todd.
