61 Patchy

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to post some more pictures of my 61. Since I brought her home, I've worked on the electrical and cleaned her up a bit. It's going to be a long process, but I sure enjoy it.
Thanks again to everyone who has contributed information on this site. I've really learned a lot from you all.
Joe

Re: 61 Patchy

For the most part, the truck is pretty straight. If you notice on the driver's side, it has a hole cut out. I think one of the PO's wanted to put a gas tank in the back. The back quarter panel has bondo.
The guy I bought it from did a lot of the sanding and priming. I hope to get the rust fixed next spring and paint it sometime shortly after that.
It really runs nice. I drove it back from Denver to KC without any problems. It has a 327 engine in it. I thinking about finding a 283 (original motor??) and putting that in it, or maybe I'll be better just leaving well enough alone.

Re: 61 Patchy

Here's a couple more with my 4 year old. Even though I bought this truck for my oldest son, I think Joshua has now claimed it as his!

Re: 61 Patchy

Looks like a decent base for what I'm sure will be a cool truck. I vote that you keep the 327. There is no replacement for displacement and the 327 is a powerful yet economical & extremely sturdy engine. Not that the 283 isn't great too. I just can't think of any advantage to stepping down to a smaller engine unless it was the original numbers matching block.
