4x4 frame info needed
hi guys i have a 1972 chevy short bed 4x4 and i was wondering if the rear axles/ tires was supposed to sit in the middle of the wheel well or is it off centered towards the front. also is the 1971 4x4 frame the same as a 72 4x4. because the one i have is actually a 4x4 conversion, and i found a 1971 4x4 short bed frame on craigs list, that i am considering buying

Re: 4x4 frame info needed
I don't have any good side pics of my 69 before I lifted it, but I do know the rear axle was a little forward of center in the wheel well. Very pronounced after I added larger tires and a shackle flip to lift the rear end.
The 71 and 72 4x4 short bed frame will be the same. I personally prefer the axle to be centered. When I put a 14bolt in my 70 K5, I did my best to get it centered in the wheel well.

Re: 4x4 frame info needed
There are ways to move the axle back but I did notice that mine was towards the front, they are also narrower in the rear than the front axle...

Re: 4x4 frame info needed
If you have a lift kit with blocks ,,,,,,the blocks are angled for U-joint alignment adn they also move ther rear foreward a little so you do not have to lengthen drive shaft to make up for lift

Re: 4x4 frame info needed
ORD-OffroadDesign had a zero rate block that lets you center the rear axle. I used one on my 69 GMC.
Use this link and scroll the the last post. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=280132 I put a 4' lift on plus the ORD block and I had to have the driveshaft lengthend. If you just put the block on, you probably won't have to lengthen the driveshaft. john

Re: 4x4 frame info needed
The frames are very very similar, there are a few differences- one being the attach point for the support rod for the e brake- 71 has a tab that is riveted onto the frame on pass. side. 72 does not have this.
