Axle perch

Hi guy's, a couple of years ago I bought some perches for my 62 Chevy ½ ton to do an axle swap, and they were perfect. Now that I’m doing another swap I can’t seem to figure out where I got them from. These sat at an angle just like the original ones, just fell right into place, you know. Any way does anyone know where I can find the same kind of perches from? Also I was considering may be doing a 4-link, any pro’s and con’s on that subject? Thanks

I have a 61 apache sitting on a leaf-spring rear frame. I am in the same boat. Want to link/bag the rear. Dont know if I should do a 4 link or trailing arms....

I noticed their prices were less, I just couldn't find the ones for coils/trailing arms.

EARLY CLASSIC used to charge $20.00 or so a pair back in 2008.
IMHO I would go with the ones from either CPP or Early Classics they are made with the correct angle and fit right as Oklahoma mentioned

I have been wondering how hard would these be to make? Looks like with a 3" hole saw, a drill, and a sawzall you could make them out of some tubing pretty easily.

I just don't know if the tubing need to be anything specific?

I am swapping a '75 5 bolt 3.73 rear end into my daughters truck, and was debating on making these, instead of purchasing them, so I could incorporate a mount for the panhard bar.

I'm going to keep my the perches on my Eaton to either sell or keep it usable until I'm content with this conversion.

The ones I've dealt with don't come off that easy. Even if you were able to remove them with a bfh, they likely wouldn't be much good afterwards.

Just a heads up for you. That 14 bolt has larger axle tubes than a 12 bolt. IIRC they're 3 3/8 or 1/2" OD. So any new perches you purchase will need to be enlarged a little.

Wasn't there a thread sumwhere on here where there's pics of the rear end that they welded the new ones on with the right specs and measurements on the newer 73-87 rear end, I can't find it been searching but no luck cuz I'm bout 2 order the Deluxe rend end conversion kit from CPP just wanna get the right measurements 2 weld them on

if you have more time on your hands then money, the best thing to do is make them. i cut up a perfectly good hitch to make mine. yea, i know the hitch could have been used later on, but they're a dime a dozen and at the junk yard, and proper trailing arm saddles are not. LOL. but i just took all the measurements from the saddles on the original axle and made the markings on the donor square tubing from the hitch. if you happen to have a plasma cutter your job will be much easier. but if your like me and dont, a 5 inch cut off wheel, grinder, decent set of drill bits, and an evening with your bench vise will do the trick

hmmm. That makes me wonder about the u-bolts. Will the original u-bolts work?
If not, do we need 3-1/2" u-bolts?
And what about the holes they go thru in the trailing arms, wouldn't they be 3" apart center to center?

You know, I don't know what size the axle tube is on a HO52. I've never put a 14 bolt under a coil sprung truck, always been a leaf spring truck. I don't know if there is enough clearance in the holes in the trailing arms to allow for the bigger axle tube of the 14 bolt. I'll try and remember to check that out tomorrow when I'm at the shop.

Just researching options for now.
If I end up having to mount that 14 bolt with the leafs, no big deal.

one should always replace old ubolts. usually just easier to cut them then to undo them.they do take a lot of stress over the years

From my measurements;
The Eaton on my 66 has roughly 4-1/4" ubolts, center to center.
The GM 14 bolt ff has ubolts roughly 4" center to center.
Both these are 3/4 ton suspensions.

What was I thinking?
The center to center of u-bolts isn't the measurement needed.
The u-bolt on my trailing arm Eaton is thicker than the ones on the Leaf Sprung 14 bolt full floater.
I went and measured again.
The axles appear to both be 3.25"
