Hypothetically speaking
What would be involved in draining the stock cat on a 84 ? As I understand they are full of beads and there is a plug on the bottom. Hypothetically speaking mind you as this is very illegal. Curiosity kills the cat. LOL

Re: Hypothetically speaking
strictly hypothetically, I have been told that one might unbolt the exhaust from behind the cat, and physically alter (by way of a hammer and pipe) the substrate inside. You should then be able to start the vehicle, and, hypothetically, all of the material should come out of the inside. Hypothetically.
There are different kinds of converters, most use a honeycomb type of material in them, and some use beads. I don't think the plug you are referring to is a drain plug, though. Also, just switching to a high flow aftermarket cat may help you get rid of tha huge, heavy one that resides on your truck now, not pose a restriction, and be legal. Besides, if it is an 84, you are on the edge of having to pass smog tests here anyhow. (24 years old and newer, with a rolling date). |
