1969 GMC VIn ?
Hello I am thinking about buying a 1969 GMC LB with 396, TH400, P/S, P/B, A/C. IT seems to be all original but there are a few things that don't make sense. The Vin Number CE10D-SA14XXX, does not match any of the VIN decoders that I can find. Could it be that it is different because it is a GMC?
The Letters in it D, S and A do not match the decoders that I can find. Also the Stamp on the engine pad is good T0918YP but there is no VIN number there. Is this normal? I thought that All Chevys of this era had a partial VIN number stamped there? I looked on the pad above the Timing cover and also on the vertical surface next to the oil filter and did not find one there either. The Cylinder head has a date of I-12-8 and the block H-12-8 so that seems ok. The Head casting number is 3933148 which is ok to. I could not read the Block casting number. Should there be a Vin stamped on the transmission? If so where? I found a stamped steel tag rivited to the rt side that reads CJ-69-3126 263. Can anyone decode this tag? Thanks in advance Bill |

Re: 1969 GMC VIn ?
Thanks ,
I saw that one already and as I stated mine does not seem to match that? Or the one in a 70 Checy owners manual that I have. I was hoping someone with a 69-72 GMC would look at there VIN and tell me if it is the same format as mine. Thanks again, Bill |

That Vin Decoder did not really give the info you wanted, sorry. The "S", I believe indicates St. Louis. Try going to GMCPauls site. Theres a VIN Decoder section there. Try calling him also. I'm sure you'll get your answer from him. Good Luck.

Re: 1969 GMC VIn ?
CE10 D-S A14XXX
C= conventional cab E= eight cyl 1= 1/2 ton gvw 0D = wide side pickup box - = state code if required S = St Louis assembly plant A = model year 1969 rest is just sequence number, just one of the ways they did vins in 69 on GMC's..its vin was originally done like that. Rod

Re: 1969 GMC VIn ?
Thanks Rod,
That matches the info at GMCPauls Pretty close except they say 6 digit == assy plant but don't list an S I think it might be st louis? Any Ideal about the VIN being on the block or the transmission? Thanks again, Bill |

Re: 1969 GMC VIn ?
Unfortunatly trucks were not coded with vins on the block or trans like some cars of the era were. There is also a good vin decoder on LMC's sigh in the first few pages of their catalog.

Re: 1969 GMC VIn ?
I haven't looked at LMC's decode recently... but last time I did, it was way off on chevy, and not even close for most GMC's
Even though the Q has been correctly answered ... I'll attach a pic of the 69 GMC's owners manual and song book for reference... |

Re: 1969 GMC VIn ?
Thanks to everyone, One last question is there a way to tell from the serial number when the body was built? There are the letters DD on the VIN plate on the door jamb, do these mean anything.
Thanks again, Bill |

Re: 1969 GMC VIn ?
there was a sticker put in the drivers side door, in the jamb that shows what moth it was built. Otherwise, you'd have togo by the VIN, which is no promise on when this # truck was built, or anything like that. Without that sticker, it's all speculation.
Here's my longhorn's door jamb sticker... built 6 of 70. |

Re: 1969 GMC VIn ?
Thanks for the pics But I dont think that Sticker was used untill 1970 and up. Does anyone have a picture of where the Vin is located on the front frame horn?
Thanks in advance Bill; |
